It was even accepted legally in the Old Testament for men only, and not for women. So Paul's letter truly shows the will of God concerning marriage, in that, any office holder in the realm of ministry (bishops, pastors, deacons) cannot live in a polygamous or bigamous relationship. This does not necessarily disqualify those who have been married more than once although much discussion has been centered on this subject, as there are sects of Christendom who will not ordain divorcees in the ministry. Please understand that we live under grace and not the law, but there are times that ministry is greatly burnished when marriage is unreproachable in communities of tradition when Christian leaders testimonies of relationships is respected highly.
